A Day at PEACE Camp

 
Each PEACE Camp Session is 4 weeks long.

Each camp lasts one week, Monday - Friday from 9:30-4:00. 

Campers are encouraged to participate in all four weeks of the program to fully embrace the scope of the information being given. Each day of the camp is comprised of the five elements that make up PEACE: Political, economic, athletic, cultural and education. 


Political
The adolescent will receive a basic understanding of the political system and how it works.

·    The Law rights and Your Rights As a Citizen
·    Judicial System
·    The Police and You
·    Virginia Politics
·    Virginia Law and the General Assembly
·    The Importance of Your Vote

Economics/Money Management
The adolescents will recieve a basic understand of the concepts of Economics and Money Management. Youth will be expected to, as an adult to manage and maintain their finances as adults. This session will focus on the financial system and how it works.

·    Marketing: What To Look For and How To Spend Your Money Wisely
·    Savings and Investment
·    Credit and Debt

Athletics Camp (Health Fitness, Nutrition, Culinary)
Adolescents will be exposed to exercise and fitness, nutrition and basic culinary skills
 
·    Fitness 101
·    Nutrition: You Are What You Eat
·    Healthy Living
·    Drugs and Alcohol
·    Basic Culinary Concepts

 

Education
The adolescent will receive a basic understanding of the Educational system and how it works. Focus areas will include:

·    History of Learning (From Ancient History to Now)
·    Education and the Family (from generation to generation)
·    Education and You
·    The Importance of a Quality Education
·    The GED
·    The High School Diploma
·    A College Education
·    Education and Finances
·    Education and Culture a Look at the Eastern Educational System
·    Education vs. Incarceration (a comparison)

Cultural
Exposes youth to various cultures is a vital part to their success in living independently. This program exposes youth to various cultures within this region, the country and the world. Exposing youth to the diversity of cultures give youth an understanding of themselves and how others express themselves or live in various settings.
